Biodiversity
Brazil encompasses territories that comprise an exuberant biological diversity, constituting a rich web of relationships and dependencies of animals, plants and natural resources, which we translate as ECOSYSTEMS. These systems are controlled through the exchange of energy and materials between all these components, such as the pollination of flowers by bees, the photosynthesis carried out by plants, the dispersal of seeds by birds or mammals, and these exchanges result in ECOSYSTEM SERVICES, or ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES.
Each region is governed by physical characteristics that condition the configurations of how the landscapes are occupied by ecosystems, which in their similarities and contrasts, are specific to the different BIOMES.
The CPFL Group is distributed in more than ten Brazilian states, which provides effective contact with four biomes: Pampa, Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Caatinga.
In this rich context, CPFL assumes biodiversity as a fundamental element in the parameters for improving environmental (ecosystem) services, and these parameters are understood as a conditional responsibility for the operations of Electric Power Generation plants, Transmission Lines, Distribution Networks and other Services provided by the Company.
Our Commitment to Biodiversity
The CPFL Group is committed to ENSURE THAT THE IMPACTS OF OUR OPERATIONS AND VALUE CHAIN ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY ARE AVOIDED AND MITIGATED, INCLUDING THE ECOSYSTEM, ITS FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES, WHICH MUST BE VALUED, MAINTAINED AND IMPROVED, IN ADDITION TO SEEKING TO PROMOTE THE RESTORATION OF FRAGILE ECOSYSTEMS.
This commitment is in line with the main national and international standards and directives aimed at protecting and enhancing biodiversity. The recommendations of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for Biological Diversity (Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework | United Nations in Brazil), as well as the recommendations of the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosure (The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures) and the Brazilian National Biodiversity Targets for 2030 (Brazilian National Strategy and Action Plans for Biodiversity - EPANB) stand out among the foundations of this commitment.

Our operating principles
The general principles of this commitment are based on the commitment to promote a harmonious coexistence between our activities and nature, seeking to strictly comply with current environmental legislation, ensuring the identification, mitigation and management of environmental risks and impacts in our operations and value chain.
In addition, we conduct various types of environmental compensation, prioritizing those that bring positive impacts to biodiversity and local communities. We conduct ongoing studies and research to deepen our knowledge of biological diversity in the areas where we operate, enhancing our environmental protection, conservation and recovery actions.
Together, we work towards a more sustainable and balanced future!
To this end, our Commitment to Biodiversity is structured around five principles:
- Assessment, prevention and mitigation of negative impacts on biodiversity;
- Monitoring of impacts on biodiversity;
- Conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services and promotion of restoration initiatives;
- Education and awareness raising on biodiversity;
- Engagement with the supply chain and development of partnerships for conservation and protection of biodiversity;
Disclosure
In 2025, when the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30 Brasil Amazônia - Portuguese (Brazil)) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held, we will celebrate thirty-three years since ECO-92 (United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 3-14 June 1992 | United Nations), when the United Nations held the Conference on the Environment.
That year, May 22nd was established as International Biological Diversity Day, with the aim of raising awareness about the need to conserve and protect the diversity of life on the planet.
In order to celebrate this year of important discussions on the sustainability of planet Earth, the CPFL Group is launching its Commitment to Biodiversity on May 22nd, making public the establishment of its principles and guidelines, a fundamental milestone for the Group's contribution to the sustainability of the organization and the communities in which we operate.
