About us

CPFL Energia is a complete energy company, that operates in distribution, generation, transmission, services businesses and commercialization of electricity, in all regions of the country.

CPFL is the largest distributor in terms of volume of energy sold with a 13% share of the national market, serving approximately 10,4 million customers in 687 municipalities. With 4,371 of installed capacity, it is the third largest private generator in the country, operating in hydroelectric, solar, wind and biomass sources. With the acquisition of Companhia Estadual de Transmissão de Energia Elétrica – CEEE-T (CPFL Transmissão), the group now also has a relevant role in the Transmission segment. It still operates nationally through CPFL Soluções, providing integrated solutions in energy management and commercialization, energy efficiency, distributed generation, energy infrastructure and consultancy services.

CPFL Energia acts as a holding company, participating in the capital of other companies. State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) controls CPFL Energia through its subsidiaries State Grid International Development Co., Ltd, State Grid International Development Limited (SGID), International Grid Holdings Limited, State Grid Brazil Power Participações S.A. (SGBP) and ESC Energia S.A.

Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz started in 1912, with the merger of Empresa Força e Luz de Botucatu, Empresa Força e Luz de São Manoel, Companhia Elétrica do Oeste de São Paulo and Empresa Força e Luz Agudos Pederneiras.

1927

In 1927, the company transferred its share control to the American company American & Foreign Power (Amforp), remaining until 1964, where Amforp's concessionaires were acquired by Eletrobrás.

1975

In 1975, the shareholding control of the CPFL Paulista was transferred to Companhia Energética de São Paulo (Cesp), of the São Paulo State Government

1986

In 1986, the company is the first in Brazil to carry out the first contracts for the purchase of biomass energy from sugar cane.

1997

In November 1997, with the privatization by the state government of São Paulo, control of the company passed to the group composed of VBC Energia (Grupo Votorantim, Bradesco and Camargo Corrêa), the Pension Fund of the Banco do Brasil’s Employees (Previ ) and Bonaire Participações (Funcesp, Sistel, Petros and Sabesprev pension funds).

2002

The CPFL Energia holding company was created with the purpose of promoting synergy between the assets, being: 3 distributors (CPFL Paulista, CPFL Piratininga and a shareholding in RGE), 19 hydroelectric plants, a thermoelectric plant and the Serra da Mesa, Barra Grande generators, Rio das Antas Energy Complex (Ceran), Foz do Chapecó and Campos Novos.

2002

In August 2002, the CPFL Energia Group constitute CPFL Brazil, its main energy trader.

In September 2004, the CPFL Energia Group made its first public offering on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) and on the New York Stock Exchange (Nyse).

2006

In October 2006, CPFL Santa Cruz was acquired from Nova 4 Participações, company already controlled by CPFL Energia.

2007

In April 2007, CPFL Energia entered into an agreement with CMS Electric & Gas, L.L.C. for the acquisition of CMS Energy Brasil. CMS Brasil operates in the energy distribution, generation and commercialization segments.

2007

In December 2007, CPFL Serra was merged into RGE. After this merger, CPFL Serra was extinguished and CPFL Energia started to directly hold a stake in RGE's share capital.

2009

In 2009, CPFL Energia expanded its portfolio of investments in renewable energy, being one of the winners of the first wind energy auction in Brazil.

2011

In August 2011, through a merger of assets of Empresa de Energia Renováveis (ERSA) and CPFL Energia S.A., CPFL Renováveis was created.

2012

In December 2012, CPFL Energia created CPFL Transmissão and began operations at the concession of the ANEEL 007/2012 Transmission Auction.

2016

In November 2016, the CPFL Energia Group completed the purchase of the distributor RGE Sul (previously controlled by the AES group), becoming responsible for supplying 2/3 of all the energy in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In addition, in 2006, Piracicaba Substation was inaugurated, the Company’s first transmission undertaking.

2017

In 2017, State Grid, the largest electricity company in the world, completed the acquisition of a 54.64% shareholding in the CPFL Energia Group that belonged to Camargo Corrêa and the Previ pension funds, Fundação Cesp, Sabesprev, Sistel and Petros. In November 2017, State Grid held a Public Tender Offer - OPA, through which it now held 94.75% of the holding company's share capital. The arrival of State Grid increased CPFL Energia's investment capacity and reinforced its consolidating position in the electricity sector.

2018

In 2018, CPFL Soluções was created, by the unification of the brands CPFL Brasil, CPFL Serviços and CPFL Efiência.

2019

In January 1, 2019, RGE and RGE Sul become a single distributor, covering 2/3 of Rio Grande do Sul.

2020

In June 6, 2020 happened the auction of the tender offer for the acquisition of the common shares issued by CPFL Renováveis (“Company”) As a result of the 289,000 common shares outstanding Auction, CPFL Geração de Energia S.A. (“Offeror”) acquired 183,539 common shares issued by the Company. In 6 July, 2020 it was informed, that CPFL received the Official Letter in which CVM granted the Company’s register conversion as a publicly-held company in category “A” to category “B”. In July 7,2020 was approved the squeeze out all the 108,011 common shares issued by the Company which remained outstanding after the auction.

2021

On October 14, 2021, the CPFL Energia Group acquires 66% of the Companhia Estadual de Transmissão de Energia Elétrica (CEEE-T), now CPFL Transmissão. With the acquisition, CPFL Energia now also has a relevant role in the Transmission segment.

2022

In April 11, 2022 happened the auction of the tender offer for the acquisition of the common shares issued by CPFL Transmissão (“Company”) As a result of the 3,276,539 common shares outstanding Auction, CPFL Comercialização de Energia Cone Sul Ltda (“Offeror”) acquired 3,204,821 common shares issued by the Company. In November 30, 2022 it was informed, that CPFL received the Official Letter in which CVM granted the Company’s register conversion as a publicly-held company in category “A” to category “B”. In December 7, 2022 was approved the squeeze out all the 26,787 common shares and 39,216 preferred shares issued by the Company which remained outstanding after the auction in which CPFL-T was acquired. Since then, the CPFL Comercialização de Energia Cone Sul owns 100% of CPFL-T.

In May 1st, 2022, the operational start-up of Maracanaú project at the concession of the ANEEL 002/2018 Transmission Auction.

In November 17, 2022, CPFL Energia, announces to its shareholders and the market in general that, on the date hereof, was concluded the acquisition of 6.816.764 common shares representing 3,39% of the share capital of Campos Novos Energia S.A. (“Enercan”) by its subsidiary CPFL Geração de Energia S.A. (“CPFL Geração”) as a result of the exercise of the preemptive right resulting from the indirect sale of shares held by Companhia Estadual de Geração de Energia Elétrica – CEEE-G (“CEEE-G”). Upon completion of the transaction, CPFL Geração now holds, approximately, 52,12% of the share capital of ENERCAN.

2023

In March 13, 2023, the operational start-up of Sul I project at the concession of the ANEEL 004/2018 Transmission Auction. In March 13, 2023, the operational start-up of Sul II project at the concession of the ANEEL 004/2018 Transmission Auction.
